New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

The Rochester Institute of Technology in New York received a five-year, $3.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation for programs to increase the number of women faculty in STEM fields. The money will be used to reassess recruiting procedures, expand a mentoring program for women faculty, and for professional development and leadership programs. Women are 23 percent of the faculty in STEM disciplines at RIT.

The University of Virginia received a five-year, $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation for its efforts to increase the number of women in STEM fields and in the behavioral sciences, social sciences, and economics. The money will fund small grants for women faculty’s research and scholarship. Academic departments will be given funds for recruiting, and programs will be created to establish a positive environment for women in these fields at the university.
