Barbara D. Boyan was named as the next dean of the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She will assume her new post on January 1. Currently, Dr. Boyan is associate dean for research at the College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. At Georgia Tech, she also serves as the Prince Gilbert Jr. Chair in Tissue Engineering and as a professor of biomedical engineering.
Earlier this year Dr. Boyan was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. She is the author of more than 370 peer-reviewed articles and hold 14 U.S. patents. Professor Boyan holds bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees, all from Rice University in Houston.
