Three New Deans

Kathy Schwaig was appointed dean of the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She has been serving as interim dean since July 2010. Previously, she was associate dean for academic affairs at the College of Business. She joined the faculty at the business school in 2002. Dr. Schwaig serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Information Security and Privacy.

Dean Schwaig earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA from Baylor University. She holds a Ph.D. in management information systems from the University of South Carolina.

Derryl Block was named dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University. Since 2009, she has been chair of the professional program in nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Dr. Block joined the faculty at the Green Bay campus in 2001.

Dr. Block is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She earned a master of public health degree from Johns Hopkins University and master’s and doctoral degrees in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.

Christina Gonzales was appointed associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her appointment is effective on July 1. She has been serving as associate dean of students at the University of California at Berkeley. Previously, she was associate dean for student affairs at Arizona State University.

Gonzales is a graduate of Western New Mexico University. She holds a master’s degree and is currently working toward a doctorate at New Mexico State University.

Penny Elkins Named the First Woman President of Mercer University
