Dr. Farmer, a longtime professor of business, served as acting president of Augusta College in Georgia for two years and as president of what is now Castleton University in Vermont for six years.
Although it was initially founded as school for women, the University of Montevallo has never had a woman president. Now the university has reached a historic milestone and selected selected Michelle R. Johnston to serve as its next president.
The appointments are Catherine Edmonds at North Carolina A&T State University, Brandy Barker at Eastern Michigan University, Sarah Bartlett at Georgia State University, LeNá Powe McDonald at the University of Alabama, and Nicole Harris at Syracuse University in New York.
Julie Sanford of the University of Alabama, Eileen Boris of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Itohan Osayimwese of Brown University, Jane Grant-Kels of the University of Connecticut, and Rani Sullivan of Mississippi State University have been appointed to leadership positions with professional organizations in their academic fields of study.
Originally trained as a social worker, Dr. Yarber-Allen has worked in higher education for over two decades. Her prior experience includes academic leadership roles with Auburn University at Montgomery and Columbus State University.
To comply with the Trump Administration's demands to end DEI-related programs in higher education, the University of Alabama has eliminated Alice Magazine, a student-run magazine centered on fashion and well-being with an emphasis on women. The university has also suspended Nineteen Fifty-Six, another student-run magazine covering Black student life and culture.
An associate professor and associate dean at the University of Kansas School of Engineering, Dr. Sutley researches natural disaster-preparedness, with the goal of helping policymakers ensure people living in hazard-prone areas are kept safe and with stable housing.
“Higher education leaders must be visible, and able to share their institution’s story and clearly articulate the good work being done on campus,” said Dr. Miles “I am personally invested in the continued success of our students.”
Dr. Praskievicz passed away in August following a battle with cancer. She was an associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she taught and conducted research in the areas of hydrologly, fluvial geomorphology, and water resources.
The appointments are Soledad Peresin at Clemson University, Marina Zaloznaya at Arizona State University, Tiffany Sippial at the University of Alabama, Kristen Gibson at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Amber Stephenson at Penn State Harrisburg, Jessica West at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, Cathy Yang Liu at Georgia State University, and Sinéad Ní Chadhain at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The academic women taking on new roles are Beatriz Lorenzo, Elizabeth Wyles, Megan Case, Lacie Peterson, Stephanie Payne, Sarah Stoneback, Lisa McNair, Cynthia Sides, Amy Landis, Andrea Page-McCaw, Jess Hartshorn, and Lesley Reid.
