In Memoriam: Barbara Hatton, 1941-2025

In 1992, Dr. Hatton became the first woman president of South Carolina State University. Later in her career, she served as president of Knoxville College in Tennessee.

In Memoriam: Gwendolyn Andrews, 1932-2025

Andrews spent four decades as a pioneer in the nursing profession, including as a nurse educator. In 1953, Andrews was hired as the first instructor of nursing at what is now Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.

In Memoriam: Ralphenia D. Pace

A scholar of food and nutritional sciences, Dr. Pace taught at Tuskegee University for more than 40 years.

Ruby Perry Receives Lifetime Achievement Award From the American Veterinary Medical Association

Dr. Perry is a professor of veterinary radiology and dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University. She has the distinct honor of being the first-ever African American woman board-certified veterinary radiologist.

In Memoriam: Ruth R. Martin, 1930-2024

Dr. Martin was a professor emerita of social work at the University of Connecticut. In addition to teaching, she served the university as associate dean prior to retiring in 1999.
