Tonya Smith-Jackson comes to her new role from North Carolina A&T State University, where she serves as provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. She is slated to take the helm of Rutgers University-Newark on August 1.
Dr. Cantor says she is "eager to collaborate with communities across New York City to highlight how higher education can answer the call of what the public needs, now and going forward."
The Modern Language Association of America announced it is awarding its first annual Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for African Studies to Belinda Edmondson, Distinguished Professor in the departments of English and Africana studies at Rutgers University-Newark.
Taking on new duties are Lainie Rutkow at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Marilyn J. Cipolla at the University of Vermont, Salamishah Tillet at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey, Sharon Hall at Arizona State University, and Marcelle Haddix at Syracuse University in New York.
Norma Riccucci is a Board of Governors Distinguished Professor on the Newark campus of Rutgers University in New Jersey. She received the Herbert Simon Award from the Midwest Political Science Association for her research on street-level bureaucracy and representative bureaucracy.
Nancy Cantor received the 10th Annual Ernest L. Boyer Award in a ceremony at the annual meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Dr. Cantor was cited for being “globally recognized as an advocate for higher education, a catalyst for social mobility, and leader for universities serving as a public good in their communities.â€
Jan Ellen Lewis served as dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and professor of history at Rutgers University-Newark. Dr. Lewis was a Rutgers-Newark faculty member for over 40 years.
Each winner will receive a $165,000 prize at an international literary festival at Yale in September. The three women with ties to U.S. universities are Lorna Gibson, professor emerita at the University of Michigan, Cathy Park Hong of Rutgers University-Newark, and Suzan-Lori Parks of New York University.
Dr. Collado currently serves as executive vice chancellor and chief operating officer for the Newark campus of Rutgers University in New Jersey. Before joining the staff at Rutgers University-Newark, Dr. Collado was vice president for student affairs and dean of the college at Middlebury College in Vermont.
The faculty members in new roles are Nikki M. Taylor at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Rebecca R. Robichaux-Davis at Mississippi State University, Pamela R. Metzger at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Stephanie Newbold of Rutgers University-Newark, and Kimberly Ward of the University of Southern Mississippi.
The honorees are Lyra Monteiro of Rutgers University-Newark, Terri J. Vrtiska of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Lori Jakiela of the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg, Maria F. Paredes Fernandez of the University of Pennsylvania, Kathryn Jablokow of Pennsylvania State University- Great Valley, and the late Katie Whitlock of California State University, Chico.
Taking on new roles are Deborah A. Thomas of the University of Pennsylvania, Ruqaiijah A. Yearby at Case Western Reserve University, Marta Elena Esquilin at Rutgers University-Newark, Ellen Pader at the University of Massachusetts, and Catherine F. Cahill at the University of Pennsylvania.
