Six Women Who Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions
The women appointed deans are Cinnamon Piñon Carlarne at Albany Law School in New York, Ruth A. Hodges at South Carolina State University, Brittany Schaffer at Belmont University in Nashville, Elaine Gagliardi at the University of Montana School of Law, Kelley Brock-Simmons at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, and Dayna Touron at the University of Louisville.

The new deans are Julie Petherbridge at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, Helen Boucher at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Tamika Wordlow Williams at Belmont University in Nashville, Teri Browne at the University of South Carolina, Michelle Rinehart at Georgia Tech, and Karen Brown at the University of the Virgin Islands.
In Memoriam: Kristi Larkin Havens, 1964-2019
Dr. Havens joined the University of Tennessee’s department of English in 1996 as a lecturer. She taught courses on composition, public writing, women in American literature, and African-American literature.
Paulette Dillard Appointed the Eighteenth President of Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina
Dr. Dillard had been serving as interim president of Shaw University since June 2017. Previously, she was the vice president of academic affairs and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the university. Dr. Dillard is a trained medical technologist certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
Paulette Dillard to Lead Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina
Dr. Dillard has served as a department chair, dean, and vice president of academic affairs at the university. She will serve as interim president while a nationwide search is underway to find the next permanent president of the university.
In Memoriam: Courtney Salters Henderson, 1975-2017
A native of Tupelo, Mississippi, Salters Henderson joined the staff at Vanderbilt University in 1998 as an admissions counselor. In 2005 she was appointed director of student organizations and served in that post at the time of her death.
