Teresa A. Sullivan, president of the University of Virginia, has announced that she will step down from her post after the 2017-18 academic year. Dr. Sullivan has been president of the University of Virginia since 2010. She is the first woman to hold the office.

Since July 2015, Dr. Tydings has served as president of Chattanooga Community College. Before taking over as president of Chattanooga Community College, Dr. Tydings was president of Athens Technical College in Georgia from 2003 to 2015.
Alanna Hamilton to Lead Jackson State Community College in Tennessee
Since 2010, Dr. Hamilton has been vice president for academic affairs at Northeast State Community College in Blountville, Tennessee. She has been a faculty member at the college since 1991. Dr. Hamilton will become president of Jackson State Community College on January 10.
Marjorie Hass to Be the First Woman President of Rhodes College in Memphis
Since 2009, Dr. Hass has been serving as president of Austin College in Sherman, Texas. She also serves as chair of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. She will become the first woman president in the 168-year history of Rhodes College on July 1.
Cynthia Warrick to Lead Stillman College in Alabama
Cynthia Warrick will serve as interim president beginning on January 3. She is not considered to be a candidate for the position on a permanent basis. In the past, Dr. Warrick has served as interim president at Grambling State University in Louisiana and South Carolina State University.

The two women finalists are Jennifer Evans-Cowley, a professor of city and regional planning and vice provost for capital planning and regional campuses at Ohio State University, and Latha Ramchand, a professor of finance and the dean of the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston.

Beverly Davenport Named Chancellor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Since July, Dr. Davenport has been serving as the interim president of the University of Cincinnati. In July 2013, she was appointed senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Cincinnati. She will begin her new duties at the University of Tennessee on March 1.

With more than 9,000 members, the American Academy of Religion is the world’s largest organization dedicated to the critical study of religion. Dr. Patton will serve one year as vice president, one year as president-elect, and then in 2018 will become president of the organization.
Persis Drell Will Be the Next Provost at Stanford University
Dr. Drell has been serving a dean of the School of Engineering at Stanford since 2014. Earlier, she was the director of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, California. She will begin her new duties as provost on February 1.

Gwendolyn Boyd Suspended as President of Alabama State University
By a vote of 8-6, the board of trustees of Alabama State University voted to suspend Gwendolyn Boyd from her position as president of the university. President Boyd was charged with “failure to maintain the confidence of the board.”
