Marion Fedrick has served as interim president since January. Before being named interim president, Fedrick had been serving as interim executive vice president at Albany State. Earlier, she was vice chancellor for human resources at the University System of Georgia.
Kilgore College’s First Woman President Has Her Contract Extended for Five Years
Dr. Kays was appointed as the educational institution’s ninth president in 2016. She is the first woman to serve as president in the college’s history. In the past, the college had only given its president two-year deals.
Wanda Austin Is the New Leader of the University of Southern California

Karrin Wilks to Lead the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City
Dr. Wilks has been serving as senior vice president and provost at the college since 2014 and has been with the City University of New York for eight years. Earlier, Dr. Wilks was senior vice president at Vermont State Colleges. She will become interim president of the CUNY campus on September 1.
The New President of Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn
A native of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Claudia V. Schrader was appointed president of Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Schrader has been serving as provost and senior vice president for academic and student success at Bronx Community College.
Rachelle Karstens Appointed the Eleventh President of Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa
President Karstens came to Briar Cliff University in May 2017 as chief of staff to the university’s president. When the university’s president resigned two months later, Karstens was named interim president. She has now been appointed to the position on a permanent basis.
Karen Lawrence Appointed President of the Huntington Library in California
Karen Lawrence, who served as president of Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York, for 10 years, has been named president of The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California. She is the former dean of the School of Humanities at the University of California, Irvine.
Donna H. Oliver Named Provost at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida
Dr. Oliver is the former president of Mississippi Valley State University. Earlier, she served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Edward Waters College and vice president for academic affairs at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. She has also been on the faculty at Elon University in North Carolina.
Brown University’s Meenakshi Narain to Take Leadership Post With the Large Hadron Collider
Meenakshi Narain, professor of physics at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, has been selected to lead the collaboration board for U.S. institutions participating in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland. She is the first woman to hold the position.
Claudine Gay Named Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University
Dr. Gay is the Wilbur A. Cowett Professor of Government and of African and African American Studies and is the founding chair of Harvard’s Inequality in America Initiative. She joined the faculty in 2006 and has served as dean of social science for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences since 2015.
Heidi Anderson Appointed the 16th President of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Since September 2017, Dr. Anderson has been special advisor to the president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She served as provost and vice president for academic affairs there from 2015 to 2017.
Mary Gallagher Appointed President of Los Angeles City College
Dr. Gallagher has served as interim president since January 2018. Previously, she served as vice president of administrative services at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and was acting president of that college for eight months.

Shepherd University Extends Contract of President Mary J.C. Hendrix
The board of governors of Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, has extended the contract of President Mary J.C. Hendrix for an additional five years. She became the 16th president of the university in 2013. At that time, Dr. Hendrix was the first graduate of the university to be named president in the institution’s 144-year history.
Elizabeth Meade Appointed President of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania
Dr. Meade has been serving as interim president since former president Carmen Twillie Ambar left last summer to become president of Oberlin College in Ohio. Prior to becoming interim president in July 2017, Dr. Meade served as provost for five years.
Jinliu Wang Appointed Interim President at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute
Last fall, Dr. Wang was named interim provost for the State University of New York System. Earlier, she has served as vice chancellor for research and economic development. Previously, Dr. Wang was assistant director for engineering at the National Science Foundation.
