Marlene Tromp, a professor of English and women’s studies, has been appointed dean of the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University. She will assume her new duties on July 1. Currently, she is the director of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies.
Dr. Tromp has been on the faculty at the university since 2011. Previously, she was a professor of English at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She is the author of Altered States; Sex, Nation, Drugs, and Self-Transformation in Victorian Spiritualism (State University of New York Press, 2006) and The Private Rod: Marital Violence, Sensation, and the Law in Victorian Britain (University of Virginia Press, 2000).
Professor Tromp is a graduate of Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Wyoming and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Florida.
