The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Announces New President

Melaine Storey has been named president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting financial aid professionals across the country through advancing student aid legislation, regulatory analysis, and workforce training. Storey is set to begin her new role on May 1.

Currently, Storey serves as director of policy implementation and oversight for the Office of Federal Student Aid at the United States Department of Education. Prior to joining the department’s staff in 2020 she spent over six years with The College Board as senior director of higher education and student aid policy. Earlier, she held leadership roles with the American Council Education and conducted research with both the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and Pearson.

“As a proud, first-generation graduate and financial aid recipient, I know the transformative power of higher education,” said Storey. “I am excited to lead the organization that provides that opportunity for millions of students. It is no secret that it has been a challenging few years in higher education and financial aid specifically. The recent Covid and FAFSA crises have amplified the critical role financial aid administrators play in the broad landscape of higher education stability and sustainability. As we continue to see dramatic changes coming from Washington, NASFAA can build on that momentum and expand its strong voice for the profession and the students we serve. I look forward to bringing my experience and passion for higher education to a mission and a membership that I admire.”

Storey holds two bachelor’s degrees in economics and public policy, respectively, from Smith College in Massachusetts and a master’s degree in public affairs with a concentration on higher education from the University of Texas at Austin.
