Nancy Cantor, the 11th chancellor of Syracuse University in New York, has announced her intention to step down at the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year. Cantor became chancellor in 2004 and her contract was extended in 2008.
In a letter to the campus community, Dr. Cantor wrote, “I am intent on sprinting to the finish line. There is much work to be done in sustaining our forward momentum as a university engaged with the world—work for us to tackle together in the coming three semesters, and for our next leader thereafter.”
Prior to her appointment at Syracuse, Dr. Cantor served as chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan. Previously, she had been chair of the department of psychology at Princeton University.
Chancellor Cantor is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University.
