Two Women Named to Top Posts at Duke Kunshan University

Duke University has announced the leadership positions for its new campus in Kunshan, China. A partnership between Duke University, Wuhan University, and the city of Kunshan, China, Duke Kunshan University is expected to begin operations in the 2013-14 academic year. The new campus is under construction on a 200-acre site at the Kunshan Yangcheng Lake Science Park.

Liu Jingnan, the former president of Wuhan University in China will serve as chancellor of the university. Two American women will join the leadership team.

Mary Brown Bullock was appointed executive vice chancellor. She is the former president of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, and a leading scholar of U.S.-China relations. She has been serving as a senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. From 2007 to 2012, she was a distinguished visiting professor of China studies at Emory University.

An alumna of Agnes Scott College, Dr. Bullock earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Chinese history at Stanford University

Nora Bynum was named vice provost at Duke Kunshan University. She has been serving as director of global strategy and associate vice provost for global strategy and programs at Duke. She also was an adjunct professor in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke.

Dr. Bynum is a graduate of Duke University and holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from Yale University.
