Four Women Appointed to New Faculty Positions at Universities

Stephanie Hampton has been named director of the Tahoe Environmental Research Center and professor in the department of environmental science and policy at the University of California, Davis. She currently serves as the deputy division director of biosphere science and engineering at Carnegie Science. She has held several teaching and research-based positions with the National Science Foundation, the University of Idaho, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Washington State University.

Dr. Hampton holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in biology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Ph.D. in ecology and evolution from Dartmouth College.

Katherine Ladetto has joined the faculty at Simmons University in Boston as an assistant professor in the School of Nursing. She is a certified adult and gerontological nurse practitioner. For the past 13 years, she has worked in long-term care, including nursing home, assisted living, and independent living settings.

Dr. Ladetto received her Ph.D. from the Boston College Connell School of Nursing.

Talia Sanders has been selected to serve as interim assistant vice president for academic affairs at Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins, Texas. For the past six years, she has served the university as an assistant professor of biology. She has conducted extensive research on phytoremediation, environmental toxicology, STEM education, and test anxiety/mitigation.

Dr. Sanders is a three-time graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in environmental science.

P. Karen Murphy has been named associate dean of research and outreach for the College of Education at Pennsylvania State University. A Penn State faculty member for over two decades, she currently serves as a distinguished professor in the department of educational psychology, counseling, and special education and the Social Science Research Institute. She previously served as co-director of the Center for Educational and Developmental Sciences and professor-in-charge of the educational psychology program.

Dr. Murphy received her bachelor’s degree in animal science and master’s degree in agricultural education from Texas A&M University. She holds a Ph.D. in human development and educational psychology from the University of Maryland.
