Anne Chin Recognized for Distinguished Career in Geomorphology

Anne Chin, the Harrison V. Chase Distinguished Professor of Geography at Florida State University, has received the Distinguished Career Award from the Quaternary Geology and Geomorphology Division of the Geological Society of America.

Dr. Chin was appointed to her current role as chair of the department of geography at Florida State University this past summer. Earlier in her career, she held faculty roles with the University of Colorado Denver and Texas A&M University. She previously served as director of the geography and spatial sciences program at the National Science Foundation.

In her work as a geographer, Dr. Chin focuses her research on human interactions with geomorphological and ecological processes in river landscapes. She currently serves as the founding editor-in-chief of Anthropocene, an international journal for research on human interactions with earth systems. She previously had a stint as editor of Earth Science Reviews. 

Dr. Chin received her bachelor’s degree in geography with a focus on ecosystems analysis from the University of California, Los Angeles. She holds a Ph.D. in geography with an emphasis on fluvial geomorphology from Arizona State University.
