Montana State Acquires Papers of Former Employee Who Sued the University for Gender Discrimination

The Montana State University Library has received a collection of papers from Patricia Anderson, a former employee who sued the university for gender discrimination.

Anderson began her career at Montana State University in the 1950s and worked as a student advisor for over three decades. In 1990, she sued the university over unfair treatment towards women employees. She won the case and the university was found to have a pattern of gender pay discrimination.

Nearly three decades later, Anderson was named to Montana State’s “extraordinary, ordinary women” list. The list recognized 125 women for their significant impact to advancing women students and employees at the university.

Anderson’s donation will be available for public viewing via the Montana State University Library’s Archives and Special Collections.
