In Memoriam: Mona Sheinfeld Hersh-Cochran, 1934-2024

Mona Sheinfeld Hersh-Cochran, longtime professor at Texas Woman’s University, passed away on September 6. She was 89 years old.

For over three decades, Dr. Hersh-Cochran served as a professor of economics at Texas Woman’s University. She specialized in health economics, which led to advisory appointments with the World Health Organization and what was then the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. She also served as a member of several professional organizations, including the Southwestern Economics Association and the Association for Social Economics.

Dr. Hersh-Cochran received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey. In 1966, she earned her Ph.D. in economics from Southern Methodist University in Texas, making her the first woman doctoral graduate in the university’s history.
