Buena Vista University in Iowa Adds Five Women to its Faculty

Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, has announced the hiring of 10 new faculty. Five of the new faculty members are women.

Callie A. Friesen was appointed assistant professor of education. She has been an adjunct faculty member at the university since 2010 and previously taught at St. Mary’s School in Storm Lake, Iowa. A graduate of Buena Vista University, Friesen holds a master’s degree from Drake University, where she is currently working on an educational doctorate.

Jennifer R. Seymour was also hired as an assistant professor of education. Form 2004 to 2009, Dr. Seymour was an assistant professor of mathematics education at Iowa State University. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri’s flagship campus in Columbia. She earned a doctorate in educational psychology/cognitive science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Miyuki Vamadevan Arimoto was appointed an assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice. She was an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Washington University and Eastern Kentucky University. Dr. Arimoto holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan. She earned a Ph.D. in sociology at Washington State University.

Heather A. York was named an assistant professor of biology. Since 2007, she has been an assistant professor of biology at Doane College in Nebraska. Dr. York is a graduate of the University of Minnesota. She earned a Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Kansas.

Andrea Breemer Frantz was appointed associate professor of digital media. She was an associate professor of journalism at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Dr. Frantz is a graduate of Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, where she majored in English and German. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in rhetoric and professional communication from Iowa State University.
