Katrina Mealey, Regents Professor of veterinary clinic sciences at Washington State University, is the recipient of the Faculty Achievement in Research Award from the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians.
Dr. Mealey’s academic career has focused on veterinary pharmacogenetics, veterinary clinical pharmacology, and drug-to-drug interactions. She is known for discovering mutations in the MDR1 gene in dogs and cats. Her lab is currently researching how to prevent adverse drug reactions in animals with the gene mutation. Her scholarly contributions have led to numerous publications, patents, and positions with professional organizations. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and deputy editor of the Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
With a tenure that spans over two decades, Dr. Mealey has held several leadership roles throughout her time with Washington State University. She currently serves as director of the program in individualized medicine, director of the public impact initiatives, and holds the Richard L. Ott Endowed Chair in Small Animal Medicine and Research.
Dr. Mealey holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico, a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
