Linda Bell to Step Down as Provost at Barnard College

Linda A. Bell, provost and dean of faculty at Barnard College in New York City, announced that she will step down at the end of the current academic year. She has served in these roles for more than a decade. After a sabbatical, Dr. Bell will return to Barnard as a faculty member in the department of economics.

“It has been a privilege and an honor to lead this extraordinary faculty and to work closely with so many committed colleagues on senior staff, in the Provost’s Office, and throughout the College to advance the mission of the College on behalf of our incredible students,” said Provost Bell. “While I look forward to returning to research and teaching, I will surely miss the collaborations and friendships that have been cultivated and nourished across this amazing community.”

Before coming to Barnard, Dr. Bell was the John B. Hurford Professor of Economics and provost at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. She has been provost since 2007 and first joined the Haverford faculty in 1992.

Dr. Bell is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
