In Memoriam: Constance Parry Faulkner, 1936-2023

Constance Parry Faulker, a long-time faculty member at Western Washington University, died on September 11 in Bellingham, Washington. She was 86 years old.

A native of Sacramento, California, she grew up in Salt Lake City. Dr. Faulkner earned a Ph.D. in economics and Middle Eastern studies from the University of Utah.

Dr. Faulkner taught political economy, cultural and women studies, and social theory at Fairhaven College, Western Washington University, from 1968 to her retirement in 1990. She also taught at the University of Utah, including in their MBA program at Ramstein and Saarbrucken Air Force bases in Germany, and at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She, her husband, and children were evacuated from Cairo to Athens during the 1967 Six-Day War between Israel and Egypt.

While at Western Washington University, Dr. Faulkner was instrumental in the passage of the university’s sexual harassment program and was one of the founding members of Western’s Women’s Commission. Professor Faulkner helped establish the first Bellingham safe houses for victims of domestic violence and their children and later the Women Care Shelter.
