In 1983, Dr. McElroy became the first Black woman to serve as a full-time faculty member at the University of Washington. From 1995 to 2007, Professor McElroy served as editor of The Seattle Review, a literary magazine based at the university.
Dr. Faulkner taught political economy, cultural and women studies, and social theory at Fairhaven College, Western Washington University, from 1968 to her retirement in 1990. She also taught at the University of Utah.
While working for Western Washington University Dr. Collins earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies at the age of 47. She went on to earn a master's degree in adult education at Western Washington University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Seattle University.
The honorees are Lynda Goodrich of Western Washington University, Patty Perillo of Virginia Tech, Dorothy Horrell of Colorado State University, Sascha Scott of Syracuse University, and Karen Fairbanks of Barnard College.
The new deans are LeaAnn Martin at Western Washington University, Paula Casey and Gail D. Hughes at the University of Arkansas Little Rock, Maryam Alavi at Emory University, and Uta Poiger at Northeastern University.
