Three Women Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Chairs at State Universities

Kathleen McGarry has been named to the Thomas Muench Endowed Chair of Economics at Stony Brook University in New York. She has been serving as a professor of economics at the University of California Los Angeles. She is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Professor McGarry’s research focuses on the well-being of the elderly with particular attention paid to the transfer of resources within families and issues surrounding the provision of long-term care.

Dr. McGarry received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a double major in economics, as well as a Ph.D. in economics, from Stony Brook University.

Jessica Jensen was appointed to the Walter F. and Verna Gehrts Presidential Professorship at North Dakota State University. Dr. Jensen is chair of the department of emergency management and disaster sciences at the university. She joined the faculty at the university in 2011.

Dr. Jensen is a graduate of California State University, Northridge, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in emergency management from North Dakota State University.

Corey Tarwater now holds the Robert Berry Distinguished Chair in Ecology at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Tarwater’s research interests are broadly focused on the links among ecology, evolution, and behavior of year-round resident birds. She has done fieldwork on birds in Panama, Hawai’i, and British Columbia.

Dr. Tarwater earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife, fish, and conservation biology from the University of California, Davis. She holds a master’s degree in natural resources and environmental sciences and a Ph.D. in ecology, evolution, and conservation biology from the University of Illinois.
