Mary Good, founding dean of the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is one of the five inaugural inductees into the U.S. News STEM Leadership Hall of Fame. She is the only woman among the five honorees.
Dr. Good served as dean of the engineering program at UALR from 1999 to 2011. She is now a special adviser for economic development to the chancellor of the university. Dr. Good served as an under secretary of commerce during the Clinton administration. She is a past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Alison Bell, assistant professor of animal biology at the University of Illinois, received the 2012 Young Investigator Award from the Animal Behavior Society. She was honored for “remarkable research contributions to the field of animal behavior and the early training of young scholars” in the field.
Dr. Bell is a graduate of the University of Chicago. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of California at Davis.
Susan Murphy, vice president for student and academic services at Cornell University, received the 2012 Tanner Prize from Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life for her efforts to enhance Jewish life on campus.
Dr. Murphy joined the Cornell administration in 1978 and has served in her present position since 1994. Earlier, for nine years, she was dean of admissions and financial aid. Dr. Murphy holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Cornell. She earned master’s degrees from Montclair State University in New Jersey and Stanford University.
