Three Women Appointed to Faculty Posts

Fiona Doherty was appointed clinical associate professor of law at Yale Law School. Since the fall of 2011, she has served as a visiting clinical associate professor at the law school. She is the former senior counsel for the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights in New York City.

Professor Doherty is a graduate of the University of Virginia where she majored in history and Slavic languages and literatures. She graduated from Yale Law School in 1999 and then clerked for Martha Craig Daughtrey, a judge on the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Judith Shrum was named professor emerita at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. A member of the Virginia Tech community for 30 years, she was a professor of foreign languages and literatures in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Professor Shrum is a graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University.

Joanne M. Pierce was promoted to full professor of religious studies at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. She has been a member of the faculty at Holy Cross since 1992.

Professor Pierce holds a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Notre Dame.
