Onondaga Community College Names New Leader

Margaret M. O’Connell was appointed interim president of Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. With nearly 13,000 students, it is one of the largest community colleges in the State University of New York system. The O’Connell appointment is effective July 1 when current president Debbie L. Sydow leaves to become president of Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Virginia (See WIAReport post).
O’Connell currently serves as chair of the board of trustees of Onondaga Community College. She will take a leave of absence from the board while she serves as interim president. She has served on the board of trustees since 2005.
O’Connell is the executive director of the Allyn Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Welch-Allyn Inc., a manufacturer of medical diagnostic equipment headquartered in Skaneateles Falls, New York.
