Baylor University Scholar Heading North to Lead St. Mary’s University in Calgary, Alberta

Sinda Vanderpool, who has spent her years as a student and an educator in the United States, will be the new president and vice-chancellor of St. Mary’s University in Calgary, Alberta, in Canada. When she takes office on July, 1, she will be the first woman to lead the university.

Dr. Vanderpool has been serving as the associate vice provost for academic enrollment management at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She had served on the faculty there for 18 years.

“I am honored to be joining such a dedicated community of students, faculty, and staff who are driven by curiosity and conscience through dynamic academic programming and foundational learning experiences,” said Dr. Vanderpool. “To be the first woman president of this remarkable institution is a privilege and responsibility, and I am excited for the opportunity to reimagine what is possible at St. Mary’s University as we write the next chapter in the life of this amazing institution.”

Dr. Vanderpool is a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina, where she majored in French. She earned a Ph.D. in French at Princeton University in New Jersey with a focus on sixteenth-century French poetry.
