Laura Doering was named registrar at Iowa State University. Her promotion will take effect on July 1. She has been serving as senior associate registrar and director of transfer relations at Iowa State. She has been on the staff at the university since 1996.
Doering is a graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and holds a master’s degree in education from Iowa State University.
Meiyin Wu, associate professor of biology and molecular biology at Montclair State University in New Jersey, was named director of the university’s Passaic River Institute for Environmental Research and Education. Dr.Wu joined hte faculty at Montclair State in 2009. Previously, she was an associate professor at the Center for Earth and Environmental Science at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
Dr. Wu is a graduate of Chinese Cultural University in Taipei, Taiwan. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in environmental and natural resource sciences from Washington State University.
Helen M. Allatorre was appointed assistant dean of students for leadership at the University of Wyoming. Her appointment is effective on July 16. She was the associate director of student leadership and development at Loyola Marymount University.
Allatorre holds a master’s degree in counseling and personnel services from the University of Maryland at College Park.
Penny Brown Minter was named director of intercollegiate athletics at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. Minter has been on the administrative staff at the college for 13 years.
Minter holds an associate’s degree from Jackson State Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Union University.
Denise Dunlap was named executive director of the Technology and Entrepreneurial Center in Nampa, Idaho. The center is hosted by the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University. The center opened in 2003 and has housed more than 100 resident entrepreneurs.
Dunlap is the former CEO of the Network Group and former managing member of the Loon Creek Capital Group. She is a graduate of Boise State University.
Sherri Cook was appointed senior associate director for finance and administration at the Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute at Virginia Tech. She has been on the staff at Virginia Tech since 1995 and served for nearly 11 years as director of finance for the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
Cook is a graduate of Bluefield State College in West Virginia and holds an MBA from Virginia Tech.
Fran Scarlett was named interim director of the Entrepreneurship Center at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She has been serving as the director of the Small Business & Technology Development Center at the university.
Scarlett is a graduate of Boston University and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Susanne Thomas was appointed director of the Emory University Emeritus College. The college, founded in 2001, serves as a social and intellectual resource for retired faculty and administrators at Emory.
Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in French literature from Emory University.
Tena Haraldson is the new director of communications and media relations for the University of South Dakota. She is the former bureau chief for North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska for the Associated Press. She has been with AP for 35 years.
Haraldson is a graduate of South Dakota State University.
Patricia P. McDougall-Covin was elected to a two-year term as vice president of the Academy of International Business. She is the director of the Institute for International Business at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and also serves as the William L. Haeberle Professor of Entrepreneurship.
Professor McDougall-Covin holds a Ph.D. in strategic management from the University of South Carolina.
Tracy Greene was named university counsel at South Dakota State University. She is the first person to hold the newly created position. Since 2005, she has been general counsel at Emporia State University in Kansas. Previously, she was a staff attorney at the University of Idaho.
Greene earned bachelor’s and law degrees at the University of Idaho.
Jennifer Rodrigues was promoted to marketing manager for the Division of Communications, Public Relations, and Marketing at the University of Memphis. She has been serving as assistant athletic director for media relations at the university.
Rodrigues is a graduate of the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
Karen Warren Coleman was appointed vice president for campus life and student services at the University of Chicago. Her appointment is effective on July 1. Coleman has been with the university’s Office of Campus and Student Life since 2009.
Coleman is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she majored in psychology. She earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Vermont.
