A Quartet of Women Who Have Been Appointed Deans at Universities

Nancy LaGreca will be the next dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, effective June 1. She is currently a professor of Latin American literature and culture at the University of Oklahoma.

Professor LaGreca received her undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Geneseo and her master’s and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Texas at Austin.

Martine Kei Green-Rogers was appointed dean of The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, effective July 1. She has been serving as the interim dean of the Division of Liberal Arts at the University of North Carolina School for the Arts. Dr. Green-Rogers has previously taught at the State University of New York at New Paltz, Kenyon College in Ohio, Sam Houston State University in Texas, and the University of Utah. Her research focuses on violence in African American theatre, African diaspora theatre, gender and race in American theatre, and issues of sustainability in the theatre.

Dr. Green-Rogers is a graduate of Virginia Wesleyan University, where she majored in theater. She holds a master’s degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in theater and drama from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Donna Strum has been named the new dean of the School of Pharmacy and executive director of the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi. She has served as interim dean and executive director since July 1, 2021. Dr. Strum joined the faculty in 2008 after teaching at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences.

Dr. Strum holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in pharmaceutical science and a Ph.D. in pharmacy administration, all from the University of Mississippi.

Susan A. Rowan was appointed interim dean of the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry, effective April 1. Dr. Rowan currently serves as executive associate dean and associate dean for clinical affairs at the College of Dentistry.

Dr. Rowan is a graduate of the University of Illinois Chicago and received her doctor of dental science degree from the College of Dentistry. She also holds a master’s degree in patient safety leadership from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
