New Award Honors Those Who Carry the Torch for Women’s Equality

Anne M. Boylan, professor of history at the University of Delaware, is the recipient of the inaugural Torch Award for Women’s Equality from the Women’s Caucus at the university. The award will be given annually to someone who has “carried the torch for women’s equality.”

Professor Boylan joined the faculty at the University of Delaware in 1986 and was named a full professor in 2002. She holds a joint appointment in the department of women’s studies and teaches courses on American women’s history. She is the author of The Origins of Women’s Activism, New York and Boston, 1797-1840 (University of North Carolina Press).

Professor Boylan was honored for serving on the President’s Commission on the Status of Women; working to develop strategies to bring more female faculty into the College of Engineering; mentoring countless female undergraduates, graduate students, and new faculty; and contributing service and teaching to the department of women’s studies.

Dr. Boylan is a graduate of Mundelein College in Chicago. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
