In Memoriam: Marian Fullerton Brown St. Onge, 1944-2021

Marian Brown St. Onge, a long-time member of the campus community at Boston College, died on August 18, two weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and a day after her 77th birthday.

A native of Montclair, New Jersey, Dr. St. Onge earned a bachelor’s degree in European history and French at the University of Colorado Boulder. She went on to graduate studies at Boston College, earning a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in French literature.

At Boston College. Dr. St. Onge taught both French language and literature, in addition to directing the women’s studies program, serving as the coordinator of the French language program, and later becoming the founding director of the Center for International Partnerships and Programs, a position she held for 15 years. In this role, she coordinated international activities across the university and more than 40 academic and business partnerships in Boston and around the world.

Dr. St. Onge retired from Boston College in 2006. She then served as the Distinguished Michael Dukakis Visiting Professor in International Affairs at the American College of Thessaloniki in Greece and was the president of the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association.
