Three Women Named to Leadership Posts in Research at the University of Nebraska Omaha

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Office of Research and Creative Activity has announced three additions to its leadership team. All three of the new appointments went to women.

Emily Wright is the new assistant vice chancellor for social sciences. Dr. Wright is a professor of criminology and criminal justice and also serves as associate director of the Nebraska Center for Justice Research. She is an affilate faculty member for the Women’s and Gender Studies program at the university. Professor Wright joined the faculty in 2012. Dr. Wright is a graduate of Arkansas State University, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati.

Kristin Girten, an associate professor of English, was appointed the assistant vice chancellor for arts and humanities. Her research focuses on the intersections between literature, philosophy, and science in the British Enlightenment and the twenty-first century, giving special emphasis to how women and other marginalized groups contribute to and feel the effects of such intersections. Dr. Girten joined the university’s faculty in 2006. She is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington. Dr. Girten holds a master’s degree in English from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Ph.D. in English from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Tiffani Hix was named director of the Office of Research and Creative Activity, overseeing sponsored programs and grant contracting. Since 2018, Hix was the lead research business services specialist for the Office of Research and Economic Development at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Earlier, Hix was assistant fiscal director at the Nebraska Department of Education. Hix earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
