Two Women Appointed to Provost Positions

Terri Shelton was appointed interim provost at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Shelton joined the faculty at the university in 1995 as a psychology professor. She later directed the Center for Youth, Family and Community Partnerships for nearly a decade. Since 2010, Dr. Shelton has been vice chancellor for research and engagement at the university. She is the Carol Jenkins Mattocks Distinguished Professor and is the is co-author of Assessing Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Family-Centered, Coordinated Care for Children with Specialized Health Conditions.

Dr. Shelton is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she majored in psychology and art history. She holds a master’s degree in experimental psychology from Wake Forest University in Winton-Salem, North Carolina, and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Malou C. Harrison is the new provost of Miami Dade College in Florida. Dr. Harrison has served as president of the North Campus of Miami Dade College since 2013 after being the dean of students at North Campus for over a decade. Dr. Harrison joined Miami Dade College in 1989 and has had many roles during that time, including serving as chief of staff to the college president, as executive assistant to the president of Wolfson Campus, and as an adjunct professor of English at the Wolfson Campus.

A native of Jamaica, Dr. Harrison earned a bachelor’s degree in management from the State University of New York. She holds a master’s degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) from Florida International University, and a doctorate in higher education/community college leadership from Walden University.
