Three Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed Department Chairs

Xiaojun Qi is the new head of the department of computer science in the College of Science at Utah State University. She has served as interim chair since 2017. Dr. Qi joined the faculty at Utah State University in 2002 as an assistant professor.

Dr. Qi earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from DongHua University in Shanghai, China. She holds a master’s degree in computer science from the Shenyang Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in computer science from Louisiana State University

Nancy Moreno has been appointed chair of the new department of education, innovation and technology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Moreno has served as associate provost of faculty development and institutional research at Baylor College of Medicine since 2015 and also is director of the Center for Educational Outreach and professor in the School of Health Professions and department of family and community medicine.

Dr. Moreno is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she majored in botany. She holds a master’s degree from Instituto Nacional De Investigaciones Sobre Recursos Bioticos in Veracruz, Mexico, and a Ph.D. in biology from Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Jessica T. DeCuir-Gunby is the new chair of the department of teacher education and learning sciences in the College of Education at North Carolina State University. Dr. DeCuir-Gunby is a professor of educational psychology and director of graduate programs. She serves on the editorial board for Contemporary Educational Psychology, Educational Psychologist, and the American Educational Research Journal.

Dr. DeCuir-Gunby is a summa cum laude graduate of Louisiana State University, where she majored in psychology and Spanish. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Georgia.
