In Memoriam: Ann-Margaret Anselmo, 1925-2020

Ann-Margaret Anselmo, who served for a quarter-century on the faculty at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut, died last month at the Jerome Home in New Britain, Connecticut. She was 95 years old.

Born in New Britain, she attended local public schools and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in English at what is now the University of St. Joseph. She joined the Sisters of Mercy and was known as Sister Peter Marie. She taught at private schools in Connecticut.

Sister Peter Marie continued her education at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, earning a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English. Her dissertation was on the poetry of Emily Dickinson.

Dr. Anselmo joined the faculty at the University of St. Joseph in 1965. She left the religious order in 1976 but remained on the faculty until her retirement in 1990.

The University of Saint Joseph has established the Dr. Ann-Margaret Anselmo ’46 Endowed Scholarship in her honor.
