In Memoriam: Rosemary Tysko Hornak, 1951-2020

Rosemary Hornak, professor emerita of psychology at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, died at her home in Garner, North Carolina, on May 16. She was 68 years old and had suffered from cancer.

Dr. Hornak was a native of Wheeling, West, Virginia, and played French horn in her high school marching band. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wheeling College and went on to earn a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University.

During her 34 years on the faculty of Meredith College, Dr. Hornak was the recipient of both the Pauline Davis Perry Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Laura Harrill Presidential Award.

Cynthia Edwards, a professor and current head of the psychology department at Meredith College, said that Professor Hornak was “a person of tremendous capacity, creative vision, high standards, voracious reading habits, and wide-ranging interests.”

Dr. Hornak retired in 2011.
