Meredith College, a liberal arts educational institution for women in Raleigh, North Carolina, has launched the Meredith Strong Futures Transfer Partnership with Durham Technical Community College, opening the door for qualified Durham Tech students to complete their bachelor’s degree at Meredith College.
Under the new agreement, students who complete their associate degree at Durham Tech and maintain a 2.5 GPA now have guaranteed admission to Meredith College. Participating students will receive dedicated transfer advising, early academic planning, transfer credit evaluation, a minimum of $10,000 in Meredith institutional financial assistance for full-time students, and individualized support throughout the transfer process.
“Students who come to us from Durham Tech are genuinely among some of the strongest students that we enroll,” said Aimee Sapp, president of Meredith College. “They have made a deliberate choice to continue their education. That’s important because that student arrives at Meredith knowing exactly why she’s there. Those students are frequently the most focused and driven, which brings them to a place where they can be successful.”
J.B. Buxton, president of Durham Tech, added, “In both of our cases, we have people who come to us because they want to be something in the community. In our case, people come because they want to build things; they want to protect and serve. Some want to teach and be part of supporting and nurturing a community. At Meredith, young women attend to become leaders. Meredith produces leaders, and we see that in graduates all across our community, nationally, and globally.”
Durham Tech is the fourth community college to join the Meredith Strong Futures program. The initiative also supports transfer students from Central Carolina Community College, Central Piedmont Community College, and Wake Technical Community College.
