Kathie Stromile Golden Is the New Provost of Mississippi Valley State University

Kathie Stromile Golden has been named provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at Mississippi Valley State University. She officially assumed her new duties on August 15.

Dr. Golden has more than 40 years of experience as an administrator and educator. In addition to her new appointment, she currently serves as the executive director of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists and director of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists Graduate Assistant Program. Most recently, she served as director of international programs and special assistant to the President’s Office at MVSU. Prior to that, she served as MVSU’s associate vice president for academic affairs.

Dr. Golden served as the Iraq Public Health and sanitation project coordinator for the Mississippi Consortium of International Development from 2003 to 2005 and as director of the Delta Research and Cultural Institute from 2001 to 2003. From 1998 to 2001, she served as the partnership coordinator and budget manager for the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation. Earlier in her career, she served as director of the Faculty Research Fund and as an associate professor of political science at Morris Brown College in Atlanta. She also served as department chair, assistant professor of political science, and director of the international relations graduate program at Morgan State University in Baltimore.

“My experiences working with MVSU colleagues, students, alumni and friends of the university for almost 20 years will inform my approach to performing the duties and responsibilities associated with the position,” said Dr. Golden. “I am excited about and confident in my ability to make positive contributions to the university, and I am honored for having been selected for the position.”

Dr. Golden holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree both in political science from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Kentucky.
