Toni Ivey and Stephanie Hathcock Appointed Co-Leaders of the School of Science and Mathematics Association

Two professors in the College of Education, Health, and Aviation at Oklahoma State University have been appointed co-executive directors of the School of Science and Mathematics Association. Founded in 1901, the organization is an inclusive professional community that brings together researchers and teachers to promote research, scholarship, and practice to improve and integrate science and mathematics in schools. SSMA also publishes the well-respected and nationally distributed School of Science and Mathematics Journal.

Toni Ivey is an associate professor of science education at Oklahoma State. She serves as the graduate coordinator for the Ph.D. in education, option in science education, as well as the master’s degree program in teaching, learning, and leadership, option in mathematics and science education. She also serves as the associate director of the Center for Research on STEM Teaching and Learning. She has been a member of the faculty for the past 10 years.

Dr. Ivey holds three degrees from Texas A&M University: a bachelor’s degree in geology and a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in curriculum and instruction.

Stephanie Hathcock is an assistant professor of science education at Oklahoma State. In addition, she serves as a manuscript reviewer for SSMA and associate editor for the Journal of Geosciences Education. Before joining the faculty at Oklahoma State in 2014, she taught science and gifted education in Arkansas and Virginia.

Dr. Hathcock is a graduate of John Brown University in Arkansas, where she majored in middle school science and mathematics. She holds a master’s degree in gifted education from the University of Arkansas and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Old Dominion University in Norfolk Virginia.
