A New Provost at Barnard College

Linda Bell was appointed provost and dean of the faculty at Barnard College in New York City. Currently, Dr. Bell is the John B. Hurford Professor of Economics and provost at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. She has been provost since 2007 and first joined the Haverford faculty in 1992.
Professor Bell will take a brief, three-month sabbatical after finishing the academic year at Haverford. She will use the time to continue her research on gender differences in executive compensation. She will assume her new duties at Barnard on October 1.
Dr. Bell is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
