Vanderbilt Begins Planning for Campus Initiatives to Support Women On Campus

The provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Vanderbilt University, Susan R Wente, has launched a planning phase for a new initiative on the status of women on campus. It will focus on the issues facing women in the academic affairs of the university.

“We must collaborate to foster a community where all are welcome and invited to engage in order to achieve our discover and learning missions,” said Provost Wente. She will work the vice chancellor for equity, diversity, and inclusion to decide what steps to take to further support women faculty and staff going forward. Dr. Wente will select a steering committee for the initiative who will consider thematic areas for study and action.

Dr. Wente also serves as a professor of cell and developmental biology at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California Berkeley.
