Roberta Troy to Serve as Provost at Tuskegee University in Alabama

Roberta Troy was appointed interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Tuskegee University in Alabama. She succeeds Tejinder Sara who has served in the position since July 2017 and is returning to retirement.

Tuskegee University enrolls about 2,800 undergraduate students and 450 graduate students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 63 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Troy has been a member of the faculty at Tuskegee since 1999. Earlier, she taught biology at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Dr. Troy is the founding director of the Tuskegee University Health Disparities Institute for Research and Education and has served as interim provost before as well as assistant provost for undergraduate studies. Her research is focused on chemo-preventive and chemotherapeutic effects of natural products on breast and cervical cancer in African American women.

Dr. Troy holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from Tuskegee University. She earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Florida.
