The University of California, Irvine received a $100,000 grant from the Maria Shriver’s Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement to investigate why women are significantly more likely than men to develop Alzheimer’s disease. Two thirds of the 5.5 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease are women.
Scripps College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in Claremont, California, received a $800,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the college’s Interdisciplinary Humanities Initiative. Funds will be used for undergraduate research fellowships, professional development initiatives for faculty and the development of new clinic courses that will involve community organizations in Los Angeles.
Bryn Mawr College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in Pennsylvania, received a $5 million donation from alumna Jacqueline Badger Mars.
