Arizona State’s Joanne Cacciatore Wins Indies Book Award

Joanne Cacciatore, associate professor of social work at Arizona State University, received the Gold Award at the Indies Book of the Year Award ceremonies. The awards honor the best books published in 2017 from small, independent, or university presses.

Dr. Cacciatore’s book Bearing the Unbearable: Love, Loss and the Heartbreaking Path of Grief (Wisdom Publications, 2017) explores the grieving process through the stories of people who have lost their children, siblings, or parents. Dr. Cacciatore lost her newborn daughter in 1994 and has since helped others deal with grief through her MISS Foundation.

Dr. Cacciatore joined the faculty at Arizona State University in 2007 and was promoted to associate professor in 2014. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master of social work degree from Arizona State University. She earned a Ph.D. in trauma and death studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
