In Memoriam: Jane Warren Meeks Hager, 1946-2018

Jane HagerJane Hager, professor emerita of education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, died on March 16 after a long illness. She was 71 years old.

A native of Longview, Texas, Dr. Hager joined the faculty at Old Dominion University in 1977 and taught in the College of Education for 33 years. During her tenure, she served as department chair, graduate program director, associate dean and acting dean. She was a strong advocate for increasing opportunities for women in higher education.Dr. Hager served as president of the Virginia State Reading Association and was chair of the American Reading Forum.

Dr. Hager held a master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Following her retirement from the faculty in 2010, Dr. Hager served as vice president and then president of the Old Dominion Faculty Emeriti Association. The university has established the Jane Hager Endowed Scholarship in Literacy in the College of Education.
