Three Women Scholars Promoted to Full Professor at the University of Maine

The University of Maine has announced the appointments of six faculty members to the rank of full professor. Three of these promotions went to women.

Alice Bruce was promoted to full professor of chemistry. Dr. Bruce joined the faculty at the University of Maine in 1987 and was promoted to associate professor in 1993. She has served as chair of the chemistry department. Dr. Bruce is a graduate of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. She earned two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in chemistry at Columbia University in New York City.

Kirsten Jacobson was named professor of philosophy. Professor Jacobson specializes in 19th and 20th century Continental philosophy and the philosophy of art. She is co-editor of Perception and its Development in Merleau-Ponty’s Phenomenology (University of Toronto Press, 2017). Dr. Jacobson is a graduate of St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She earned a Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State University.

Nancy Hall was appointed professor of communication sciences and disorders. She was the founding director of the University of Maine’s Center for Undergraduate Research. Dr. Hall serves as the associate editor for fluency for the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology. A graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio, Professor Hall holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in communication sciences from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
