Five Women Appointed to Dean Positions in Higher Education

Maria del Carmen Flores-Mills will be the next dean of students at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. She will begin her new duties on June 4. Flores-Mills is the senior associate dean at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She is the former associate dean of undergraduate students at Princeton University.

Flores-Mills is a graduate oi Iowa State University, where she majored in Spanish and education. She earned a juris doctorate at the University of Iowa College of Law.

Patrice Gilliam-Johnson was named dean of graduate, adult, and continuing studies at Delaware State University. Since 2016, she has been serving as Secretary of Labor for the state of Delaware. Prior to her appointment as Secretary of Labor, Dr. Gilliam-Johnson served on the faculty of the psychology department at Wilmington University in Delaware.

Dr. Gilliam-Johnson is a graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Anne Langley was appointed dean of the library at the University of Connecticut. She has been serving as associate dean for research collections and scholarly communication at Pennsylvania State University Libraries. She joined the staff at Penn State in 2015. Previously she was head librarian for the science and technology at Princeton University.

Langley is a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta, where she majored in English and creative writing. She holds a master of library and information science degree from the University of Tennessee.

Dianna Graves was promoted to dean of students at Claremont McKenna College in California. She will also hold the title of assistant vice president. Since 2016, Graves has served as assistant vice president for strategic initiatives.

Graves is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College, where she majored in biology and earned 11 varsity letters. She returned to her alma mater in 1999 as head coach for women’s volleyball.

Quincy A. Rose is the new dean of the College of Education at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis. She was chair of the department and an associate professor of curriculum and instruction at Grambling State University in Louisiana.

Dr. Rose holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Delaware State University. She earned an educational doctorate at Wilmington University in Delaware.
