Sweet Briar College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in Virginia, has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg. The community college enrolls more than 2,200 students and women make up 55 percent of the student body.
The agreement is applicable to women students at Central Virginia Community College and also to high school students who are taking courses at the community college. These students in associate’s degree programs will be able to enroll in classes at Sweet Briar College at the same credit hour tuition rate they would be charged at Central Virginia Community College. Community college students will also have access to facilities, clubs, activities, and other events held on the Sweet Briar campus. After completing their associate’s degree through the dual-enrollment program, students may apply to transfer to Sweet Briar in order to complete a bachelor’s degree.
Melissa Richards, vice president for communications and enrollment management at Sweet Briar College, stated that “it’s all about access to quality education. There are so many opportunities at Sweet Briar, and at the very top is our excellent, deeply devoted faculty. Spanning every discipline in the liberal arts and sciences, our courses are academically rigorous, but they’re always engaging. Bringing talented young women from CVCC into the fold is a win-win for both institutions.”
