MIT Scholar Wins the Science Award Electrochemistry in Germany

Jennifer L.M. Rupp, Thomas Lord Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and an assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, received the 2017 Science Award Electrochemistry from Volkswagen and BSF corporations in Germany. Dr Rupp was honored for her work on energy storage systems.

Dr. Rupp received her award and a $47,000 prize at the Karisruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. She was honored for her work on energy storage systems. Dr. Rupp’s lab at MIT is working to replace the flammable liquid electrolyte in lithium batteries with a safer solid-state lithium electrolyte.

Dr. Rupp joined the faculty at MIT a year ago. Earlier, she was a non-tenure-track assistant professor at ETH Zürich in Switzerland. Born in Germany in 1980, Jennifer Rupp studied mineralogy and crystallography at the University of Vienna in Austria and received her PhD in material science at ETH Zürich.
