Columbia University Literary Scholar Wins Book Award From the Modern Language Association

The Modern Language Association announced that it is awarding its 48th annual Russell Lowell Prize to Branka Arsic for her book Bird Relics: Grief and Vitalism in Thoreau (Harvard University Press, 2016). The award is given to a literary or linguistic study, a critical edition of an important work, or a critical biography.”

Branka Arsic is the Charles and Lynn Zhang Professor of English and Comparative Literature and director of graduate studies in English and comparative literature at Columbia University in New York City. She is the co-editor of the recently released Melville’s Philosophies (Bloomsbury Academic, 2017). An earlier work was On Leaving: A Reading in Emerson (Harvard University Press, 2010).

Professor Arsic holds a Ph.D. from the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
